Our Story

I’m Ruth, the heart behind Sunflowers and Sky. Last year, I embarked on the biggest project of my life: becoming a mom to my little boy. I decided to take a break from my career as a web developer to cherish these precious moments and watch him grow.

During my journey into motherhood, I also began Sunflowers and Sky as a personal project to keep my free time creative. It was born from a love of nature and the desire to create original, wearable pieces of art inspired by its beauty. On a recent trip back to Bolivia, we discovered stunning handcrafted items made by Guaraní women from Indigenous communities. Their artistry and heritage touched me deeply, and I knew I wanted to share their work with the world.

Today, Sunflowers and Sky brings together two meaningful collections, each with its own story:

Palm

These items are lovingly handcrafted by Guaraní women from the Indigenous communities of Tentaguasu and Yuati in the Tarija region of Bolivia. Each piece is made from palm leaves harvested from the Chaco, a vast region of forest and plains that stretches across Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina, and Brazil—ancestral land of the Guaraní people. Palm weaving is not only a cultural tradition but also a vital source of income for these families, helping to sustain their communities and way of life.

Wood

Every piece in this collection begins with a digital illustration inspired by flowers or elements from nature. The design is then laser-etched into wood, creating a canvas for painting. I hand-paint each piece with care and seal it with an anti-allergic varnish to transform it into a vibrant, wearable work of art.
